I definately believe their has to be intelligent life besides us SOMEWHERE. The universe is to big for us to be alone. However, I voted maybe because it is very unlikely that first contact will occur anytime in the next few thousand years. Thats assuming contact is even possible, which I doubt.

They could exist on another plane or dimension, making communication impossible, they could be made up of energy as opposed to matter, they could simply be conciousnesses without bodies. We assume they will be like us. The chances of them vaguely resembling anything on this planet is just absurd. They would be unlike anything we can even imagine. Our only small hope of contact would be that they are much much much much more advanced then us, but even then contact is very unlikely.

Okay, good questions
1) Depends vastly on what they are like physiologically. If they exist on another plane or dimension, then their weapons couldn't do shit to us anyways, just as ours could do nothing to them. However, it is most likely that they wouldn't be hostile for several simple reasons. First, when you ask if they would be hostile you assume they have emotions. It is possible they would not have emotions, actually probable that they wouldnt have them, as evolutionarily speaking, they have no point. Even if they did have emotions their mentality may not even allow them to be hostile. It could easily be physically impossible for an Extraterrestrial to get mad! It is most likely that they either wouldnt have emotions, or they would have their own set of emotions vastly diferent from ours. Secondly, why would they even want to attack us? It is possible, they could just evolve in such a way, that they would just want to kill us on the spot, however this is unlikely, as one characteristic of intelligent life is control of instincts. Assuming they would be intelligent, they would have absolutely nothing to gain from killing us. A quality of an advanced civilization, is peace.
As for your second question, in all likelyhood, they wouldn't! If they had emotions like ours, they could have curiosity, and simply come here to explore, but it is most liekly they would have different emotions. They wouldn't come to steal our planet, like in War of the Worlds, because as I said, they most likely couldn't inhabit it. One possiblility is that they would come in one of two ways: To answer our call for help. Or (believe it our not) to ask US for assistance.
