I'm an old lady with a porch rocker, a rifle and 100 cats.
Kidding.
I live in NJ, work in NYC, I play the harp, I bellydance. I've written two novels and one of them ALMOST got published by Hyperion - owned by Disney. *sigh* Never happened, even after going back and forth with them writing 4 drafts, talk about grueling. Will probably take a crack at self-publishing once I'm done with music therapy school. I've created a full plate for my life, thank God I am single.
I'm not terribly active online except for when it comes to this show and Smallville. I love reading these forums. I am having a blast reading the DT stories you guys have started!! At some point I get the guts to add some stuff.
I LOVE THIS SHOW.

A set of identical twins (about 15) move in with their father after their mother dies. The parents had been divorced for years, and the girls hadn't had much contact with their father. It so happens he is an asshole and expects his daughters to be perfect. Once they are back under his roof, he expects them to BE twins in everything, how they dress, how they do in school, ect, ..worse, he gets their new stepmother to monitor them, and then wonders why they can't stand her. Before this they were close sisters, but how they each have been reacting to their mother's death and then moving in with their father and stepmom ...ironically they are being pushed away from each other, no longer kindred spirits. One of them, who was more deeply affected by their mother's death, runs away to "Break the Mirror" That's the title. (Cliche but I like it) I got this idea from watching a 20/20 documentary on twins, and these girls came forward to tell their story - how demanding their father was, wanting his daughters to be fashion plate twins. The girls sucked it up somehow, unhappily, and they still looked the same...I decided to have MY characters NOT put up with that shit and separate, and when they do re-unite, they don't look like twins anymore...but like sisters or cousins. Having been inspired by V.C. Andrews (when she was alive and her books were her own) my novel did lean toward a dark psychological drama....and the Disney folks WERE interested in it. The end result. MY story was written in single-person, double-narrative with alternating chapters going back and forth between the girls...and THEY wanted me to rewrite it in third-person omniscient. Grrrrrrrrr! I said no. So they said no. Sometimes you just have to stick with your guns in order to keep the story your own. Unfortunately that comes with a price, but I'm glad I made that decision. MY STORY DAMMIT. I was NOT about to (as I quote from Louisa May Alcott) "cut the arms and legs off the baby so it would fit in the cradle" . No way. Hence self publishing. I don't care if it doesn't make any money. I just want people to read what I have to say, even if it's just a few. I've had this idea since I was 16...and it will get completed. My other idea...a witch-hunter from 16th century France passes away suddenly after arresting 4 of his "lovers", putting them through torture and eventually sending them to the stake...his soul is sent to the 21st century where he must repent for false accusations and then some. How? All his ex-girlfriends from that time have come forth to haunt him, of course he doesn't know what's happening to him and why until he ends up in a mental ward and all of them pay him a visit. THEN he gets it. mwahahahahaaaa! It's pretty sick...don't know if I'll get this one off the ground though, writing the chapters was a lot of fun, and I didn't write them in order. Trying all the loose ends together and dealing with plot holes that came up....aaaah - writers block! I don't know, I might take another crack at it. Thanks for listening/reading Ever read Joe Lisner's Dawn series? Ever catch the cartoon Megas XLS? Some of the creators involved are my friends, and I'm proud of them. Anything is possible. But I'm FURIOUS they pulled Megas off the air. Long story, but they had a decent run - my friend had fun while it lasted.

I also attempted a retelling of Cinderella....but Gregory Maguire came along wrote an AWEOMSE retelling, and I let it beat mine to a pulp and throw it out the window.
It's called Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. Funny thing, this book was written in 1999....looking back I wonder if the DT writers ever SAW this book! The "Cinderella" character's name is, get this, Clara. And from the start she pretty much tells her new stepmother to fuck off and leave her alone. LOL

Ya I've heard of Megas actually. Cool story. I would have done the same thing as you. After all, it is your story. Who are they to tell you what to do.
You seem to know a lot of famous people, or people who have made stuff. Thats pretty awesome. I met the creator of "The Sims" once. I have one other claim to fame to. Ever heard of the show "Skating with Celeberties?". You probably have, and one of the skaters on it is Lyod Eisler, and I knew his wife pretty well. She lives in Kingston, and He used to, but I doubt he will anymore because, they got divorced a little while ago, because he was having an affair with his skating partner on the show. It was pretty sad. She is a good person, and now, I think that he is a total asshole. What makes it worse, is she had just had his second kid before he divorced her. People like him piss me off. Anyway, you might of heard that already, because it was in all the magasines a while ago.
But anyways, good sounding novel. If it gets published, I will definitely buy it. I should try to get around to writing my own novel. That would be cool.

That does sound familiar. Sadly this shit happens a lot - famous or no...some people just suck! I read about this all the time, and I've sat back and watched my so many friends marry, divorce, re-marry, ect, cut ties with best friends and expect others take sides.
Writing a novel can be very time consuming, but it's fun, and you should definitely go for it! One of the things that kept me going was this thought (to quote from the great V.C. Andrews herself) : "You get to play God."
