Wha.....?
(checking last posts)
*sigh* this shit happens everywhere. feh. people suck sometimes. I try to ignore them.
anyways, back from Houston. flights there and back were delayed, I'm so happy I had my little DVD player. Watching the last few episodes of this show again was more than enough to keep me sane. I don't like crowds...so I always find a quiet corner : )

Oh boy, do I have a story for you guys!! But to warn you, it's a long rant, and I just needed to get it out. Read on if you like.....
Some people are just too stupid to live. Last night I had a gig at Palazzo restaurant. I played till 9:30pm and then sat down with my friends Diana and Sam to relax and chat over some brushetta, foccacio and a glass of wine. I had left my harp set up and I was sitting pretty close to it, but had my back turned, facing Diana. Well, this older man walked by on his way to the men's room, bumped into the harp and knocked it over. I didn't see it happen, I just heard something go "boom" and Diana gasping. The harp fell backwards and hit the floor with the top back of the soundbox. This man kept on going, didn't even stop walking to see what he had done!! I jumped up, grabbed my flashlight to asess any damage and fortunately there wasn't any that I could see. Dusty String harps are very solidly built with thick wood and 1000 pounds of pressure from the strings helping to hold it together. If the sound box on the front had cracked I may as well have kissed it goodbye. Good thing it's insured!! Well, I'm continuing to check the harp, and I was seeing red and too angry to even speak. Diana told me to breathe, but could sense I was pissed off enough to commit murder (she told me this later). This man went back to his table and sat back down. No appology. I was SO close to throwing a tantrum, I just wanted to beat this man to a bloody pulp. Yeah...Kill Kill Kill Kill, Die Die Die!! But is it worth the jail time??? No. I somehow held my anger in check, I quietly packed up the harp, the amp, told the bus boys and Diana to WATCH THEM and I went to get my car. I got in the car, closed the door and screamed for nearly a minute, then calmed myself and pulled the car up next to Palazzo's. In the time I was gone, Diana approached this man and said "Excuse me, but you had knocked over my friend's harp and right now she is very upset and I think it would be nice if you appologized to her." He did, and handed me his business card, telling me to contact him if any repairs would be needed, and that he would pay for them. I took the card and thanked him, my inside voice saying "I hope for your sake you're rich". Anyway, no harm done, I am going to check the harp again later now that there's more light, and will continue to monitor it like a hawk. Both Diana and I were so shocked - how could he not see what he did? He wasn't drunk. Just in his own little world that he didn't notice that he stumbled enough to jostle and knock over a $4000 harp. Well, I learned my lesson. Next time I plan on hanging there for a bit afterwards, I will pack away that $4000 harp and get it out of harms way! It can get rather busy there. The manager and owner could see I was pissed off, and asked if I was okay, and jokingly suggested I strangle this asshole with one of my spare strings. Ooh, I have wire wrapped strings that would serve nicely. But I said I would be fine, and that the incident is "not worth serving jail time"...or creating drama at a restaurant I have come to love, for that matter.
Diana took me to South Park (yes, there is a bar in Montclair called South Park!! LOL) for a good stiff drink to calm me down. It worked.

Lol. I know exactly what you mean. I have had similar experiences involving various things, ranging from my Car (which I love to death) to my expensive (and in Canada, a massive hassle to obtain) airsoft guns. Some people are just inherintly idiots.

Yeah, and at times there are just tooooooo many of them!! But I'm glad I play there Thursday nights, Saturday nights - it's like a circus in there. Thank God they don't serve hard alcohol. Not that I have a problem with hard alcohol (sometimes I really like it) but...I've had my fair share of belligerent drunks at various weddings gigs.

Ya, I know. You must be a pretty damn good harp player to play there every week, especially if it's that busy.

Aw, thanks!! Nine years of classical piano gave me the ability to play super fast, and if I'm in the mood and have the energy, I'll play my show-offy Irish tunes. But I also I try for variety, and will play a little bit of everything. The people there like show tunes and Frank Sinatra along with the Irish/medieval tunes. I always get requests for Greensleaves, Pachebel Canon in D, the Titanic theme song and "that Mexican happy dance" tune. I started playing there over a month ago. The owner asked if I could play every Thursday night and some Saturdays. Saturdays are always packed no matter who is playing. Thursday nights are starting to pick up, now that it's getting warmer out. Oh and the food is AWESOME! I love their pasta and foccacia bread.

Thats pretty awesome. Im in a band with some friends. They are all very talented, especially Nathan our Lead Guitarist, and I always feel way out of my league playing with them. Its fun though, we dont get to many gigs, but most of the time, were not looking for any. We just like getting together and Jamming when we can.

Ling Ling's Twin, Thank you! *takes a bow* Princess Clara Owns, what do you play? Jam sessions are great, I find that time FLIES by!! Sometimes I have more fun at a jam session than at a paid gig. I wish I knew more musicians in the area who could actually Stick to their plans (some of them are VERY flaky). I have some friends in Virginia who are a blast to jam with. These guys are damn good, and since the harp can get drowned out, sometimes I'll stop playing and starting dancing. LOL. I'm pretty weird like that.

Lol. Join the club. I play Base Guitar mostly. I also can play Trombone pretty well, and the Harmonica. Oh and the Kazoo, if you count it . Its fun to play gigs, but I actually prefer jamming, as you said, its just as good.

Go for it, it's fun! I have a keyboard here I rarely touch. I did have a Steinway, but the harp was taking up most of my time and a Steinway needs to be played. So I sold it to a concert pianist who now plays it 5 hours a day. I miss the Steinway sometimes but it has a better home. (plus it's so damn big, no way could I get it in the place where I currently live)

Ya it is fun. Music can be taken for granted way to easily. I never thought to much of it until I started playing Base, and then I began to realize how great it is when I started learning the Trombone too. Music is something that truely defines Mankind. Its one of the few things that is part of the entire worlds heritage in some way. Booze and Music are the two biggest ones probably. Im starting to rant, but I think if we do ever encounter other intelligent life, we should send them a piece of music first. It defines who we are.
